Preschool
Welcome to the Southside Baptist Church Preschool Ministry! Our Preschool Ministry includes babies through kindergarteners. We provide a place filled with caring people who create a meaningful and fun atmosphere to build foundations of faith for preschoolers. Each preschooler is important to us, and we love every opportunity we get to teach them about Jesus. We strive to partner with parents in teaching preschoolers about Jesus in an age appropriate and meaningful way. All of our ministry volunteers have been through a complete background check.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday mornings from 8:45 to 9:45
At Southside, we offer Sunday School classes for all preschoolers. Children learn Bible stories through fun activities, songs, and games. Our teachers are dedicated to providing a safe and loving environment where your preschooler can learn and grow.
WORSHIP CARE/LITTLE CHURCH
Sunday mornings from 10:00 to 11:15
During regular worship times we provide childcare for preschoolers birth through age four. During worship care, preschoolers participate in Little Church. During Little Church the children go to the ARK room for an age-appropriate time of worship. This special worship time includes music, games and a creative Bible Lesson.
SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY EVENINGS
Sunday nights from 5:30 to 7:00/Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30
Childcare is provided for preschoolers on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. During these times, the children will learn a Bible story, participate in a craft, play games, and eat a snack.
SPECIAL DAYS
A variety of other preschool activities are offered during the year for families, including:
- Mom and Me Gym Days
- Holiday Activities: Easter Egg Hunts, Build Gingerbread Houses, Valentines Party, etc.
- Parent-Child Dedications
Southside believes that children are a gift from God and we are excited for the opportunity to be part of your child's life.
Child dedication is a public commitment before God, your church and your family. The dedication service provides you, the parent(s), an opportunity to publically express your desire to lead and spiritually nurture your child in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, so your child will develop a desire to love God and love others.
To find out when our next dedication is planned, please contact Tina Phillips in the Church Office at 256-539-0622 x 202.
Biblical examples of child dedication
1 Samuel 1: 27-28 In this passage, a Godly woman named Hannah prayed year after year to the Lord to give her a child. God answered her prayer and she gave birth to a son whom she named Samuel. After Samuel was born, Hannah prayed these words:
"For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition, which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord."
In Luke 2, found in the New Testament, after the birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the temple and dedicated Him.
Deuteronomy 4-9 reads "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commands that I give you today are to be upon your heart. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you set at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and your gates."
God puts people and places in your child's path to help you spiritually lead him/ her. One of your first steps in remembering your child is a gift from God is a public dedication.
