Ministries

Ministry is the church in action. We use the gifts and calling God has given us to share the good news of Jesus in tangible ways. And it seems that God has endowed Southside with many men and women of all ages who engage our community. From free carwashes to block parties, from children's musicals to shut-in care, Southsiders love to love our world in the name of Jesus. Here are some of them.

Preschool Ministry

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” --Matthew 19:14

As a parent of a preschooler, you have been entrusted with one of the most amazing gifts God gives: a precious little person. What a wonderful time of your life you are in! And we see our role as your partners. We provide a safe, clean, positive environment and trained caregivers who create a loving, meaningful and fun atmosphere to build faith foundations for children from birth to kindergarten.

Children's Ministry

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever. Amen." --2 Peter 3:18

For children in 1st through 6th grade we provide a place filled with caring people who create a meaningful and fun atmosphere to build foundations of faith for children. Each child is important to us, and we love every opportunity we get to teach them about Christ. We want to partner with parents in biblical teaching and guiding our children together as they grow in the Lord:

Student Ministry

“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.” --Roman 6:11

College and Careers Ministry

If you are attending college--or if you've graduated from high school or college and are working, we have a place for you. Every Sunday morning we meet together in our College House at 200 Westmoreland at 8:45 a.m. for a time of Bible study and fellowship, with worship service following at 10:00 a.m. We also have a midweek Bible study or prayer group at 7:00 p.m. in the College House on Wednesdays followed by a time of worship at 8:300 p.m. In addition, we get together often to play volleyball, go camping, go to movies, carry out service projects, etc.

Adult Bible Studies (Sunday School Classes)

We're all in different places in our lives. Whether you're single, a young couple, middle-aged, senior or widowed, Southside has a Sunday morning Bible study group that is sure to become one of your favorite places to gather during the week.

Some classes focus on interpersonal issues. Others do different themes throughout the year. Some study books of the Bible in depth. Browse through this list of classes and then come join in one on Sunday!

Small Groups

The very best way to connect with others is in a small-group setting. At Southside, we have several Small Groups who meet at different days, times, and locales, so you're sure to be able to find one that best fits you. A Small Group is a group of 5-12 people. We meet to enjoy a snack, time hanging out, and to discuss and apply this week's sermon.

TLC - The Ladies Connection

TLC Ministry provides various opportunities for the Ladies of Southside to come together and connect with each other, love each other, encourage each other, spur each other on to obedience, pray for each other. TLC ministry is available for all ladies with the hope that we will become unified.

Men's Ministry: Game Changers

Every man who is a part of Southside Baptist Church is already a part of the “Men's Ministry”. We all play a part in ministry as church leaders, heads of households, husbands, fathers, teachers, ministers and much more. Our focus as a ministry to men at Southside is to encourage men to become “Game Changers”--to create opportunities for men to get off the bench and the pews and become bold disciples of Christ, willing to become more effective in their ministry to their families, their church and others outside of the church.

Senior Adults

Southside’s Sonshiners (our Senior Adult ministry) provides opportunities for study and fellowship for those 55+! Come join in our regular activities:

  • Sonshiners meets one Tuesday each month at the church. Come enjoy fine food and great fellowship.
  • Prayer Breakfast meets another Tuesday each month for a time of breakfast and prayer.

While sponsored by our Senior Adult ministry, all activities are open to everyone who wants to attend.

Communicating Love: Special Needs Ministry

Every Sunday evening we have an awesome opportunity to pour out the love of Jesus on a great group of people with special needs. We have wonderful times with crafts, music, Bible lessons, games, and fellowship- all while sharing the love of Christ! This class is to help us learn to live in the world as Jesus wants us to live and to bring light to the people who don’t know him.
